Be honest, Marylanders. How many books are sitting on your nightstand or next to your couch right now, waiting to be read? We know there are so many amazing reads to catch up on, and it never seems like there's enough time to finish them. But we've got some tips to help you make a dent into that TBR (to be read) list!
1. Make time
If you say you don't have time to read, it's probably because you haven't bothered to make reading a priority. Even if you just carve out fifteen minutes a day -- before bed, before work, while you're in the bathroom, whatever -- you're making time to focus on getting through a book, and that's going to add up as winter goes on.
2. Start a book club
This doesn't have to be anything fancy. It can be as simple as agreeing to read with a friend for a week and then chatting about the book over the phone or at lunch. Of course, a more formal book club can be a great way for you to bond with old friends and make new ones -- and yes, get more reading done.
3. Don't stick it out if you hate it
No one expects you to suffer! If a book that seemed great at first is actually boring you to death or just isn't a good fit, set it aside and give that time to something you'll actually enjoy reading.
4. Make books accessible
It's a lot easier to get through your books if they're easy to access. Download them onto your e-reader or phone, or opt for an audiobook so you can listen on your commute to and from work or school. If you prefer to be old-school, keep a book that you're working on in your backpack or car so it's always within easy reach.
5. Give yourself something to look forward to
Did you just finish a particularly juicy chapter or hit a mind-blowing cliffhanger? Stop for the day, and you'll be geared up to get back to your book later.
